1. Overview & Privacy Guarantee

FlowBytes (Package: com.ray.flowmeter) is an offline-first network speed meter and data usage monitor developed by RayyLabs.

Core Guarantee: FlowBytes runs locally on your device. We do not collect, store, track, sell, or transmit any network traffic, visited URLs, IP addresses, or personal data to external servers.

2. Prominent VpnService Disclosure

FlowBytes provides an optional App Firewall (App Blocker) feature that uses Android's android.net.VpnService API.

How VpnService works:

  • Local Loopback Filtering: FlowBytes creates a local loopback network adapter entirely on your device. This adapter acts as an on-device packet filter to block network access for applications you choose to restrict or that exceed your set data limit.
  • Zero Remote Routing: Your network traffic never leaves your device through a remote VPN server. FlowBytes does not operate or connect to any remote VPN server or proxy.
  • Zero Packet Logging: FlowBytes does not inspect packet payloads, inspect URLs, read unencrypted traffic, or log your browsing history.
  • User Controlled: The VpnService is off by default. It only activates when you turn on the Firewall switch. If you only use the Speed Meter or Usage Stats, VpnService is never initialized.

3. Data Storage & Usage

FlowBytes stores all data locally in Android's sandboxed private storage:

  • Usage Stats: Daily, monthly, and per-app byte counts are saved in a local SQLite database (Room Database) on your phone.
  • App Settings: Data plan limits, billing cycle dates, and firewall rules are stored in local Jetpack DataStore.
  • No Cloud Sync: We do not operate user accounts, remote databases, or telemetry backends.

4. Android Permissions

  • android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS: Needed to query system network statistics (NetworkStatsManager) to show per-app data usage for Wi-Fi and Mobile Data.
  • android.permission.QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES: Needed to list your installed apps with names and icons so you can configure individual app limits and firewall rules.
  • android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE: Keeps the real-time speed meter active in the background with a persistent notification.
  • android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Displays the live speed in the status bar and sends alerts when data limits are reached.
  • android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Automatically restarts the speed meter service when your device reboots if enabled.

5. Third-Party Services

FlowBytes contains no advertising SDKs and no tracking analytics (no Firebase Analytics, no AdMob, no Facebook SDK).

  • Google Play In-App Billing: Used to handle optional Pro purchases and tips. All payment details are processed directly by Google Play. We do not handle or store credit cards or payment info.

7. Security & Storage

  • App Sandboxing: All data is isolated within Android's private app directory.
  • Encryption in Transit: Any communication with Google Play services uses secure HTTPS / TLS 1.3 connections.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Retention: Data exists only on your phone as long as the app is installed.
  • In-App Clear: You can clear usage history and reset stats anytime in the app under Settings → Storage & Data → Reset All Usage Data.
  • Uninstallation: Uninstalling FlowBytes immediately removes all stored databases and settings from your device.
  • Contact Requests: Since we do not run user accounts or cloud servers, there is no remote data stored. If you contacted us via email and want your email removed, message us at support@rayylabs.com.

9. Children's Privacy

FlowBytes does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 years old.

10. Terms of Service

FlowBytes is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. RayyLabs is not liable for any carrier data overage charges or damages arising from the use of the application.
