1. Overview & Privacy Guarantee

GlanceBar (Package: com.ray.notificationwidget) is an offline-first Android widget application developed by RayyLabs.

Core Guarantee: GlanceBar does not collect, read, store, or transmit your notification text, chat messages, sender identities, OTP codes, or personal data. Everything is processed locally on your device.

2. Prominent Notification Listener Service API Disclosure

To show unread badges on your home screen widget, GlanceBar requests access to Android's Notification Listener Service (android.permission.BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE).

How the service works:

  • Badge Counting: When a notification arrives, GlanceBar reads the source app's package ID (such as com.whatsapp) to display its icon and increment the unread badge count on the widget.
  • 1-Tap Opening: GlanceBar holds the notification's PendingIntent in temporary memory so tapping the badge opens the corresponding app.
  • Ephemeral: Dismissing the notification from your status bar clears the badge count immediately from memory.

Privacy Protections:

  • No Message Reading: Notification body text, message previews, 2FA/OTP codes, and email subjects are completely ignored.
  • No Contact Profiling: Sender names, avatars, and phone numbers are never stored or logged.
  • No Cloud Sync: No notification data is ever sent to an external server.

3. Data Storage & Zero Tracking

Widget layout settings, color choices, and pinned app preferences are stored exclusively on your device in local Jetpack DataStore.

GlanceBar contains zero advertising SDKs and zero analytics telemetry trackers.

4. Permissions Breakdown

  • android.permission.BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE: Used to detect active notifications and update widget badges.
  • android.permission.QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES: Used to show installed apps in settings so you can customize or pin specific apps.

5. Third-Party Services

  • Google Play In-App Billing: Optional Pro upgrades are handled directly by Google Play. We do not receive or store payment details.

7. Security & Retention

  • Temporary RAM: Notification state exists only in temporary memory and clears when notifications are dismissed.
  • Sandboxed Storage: Widget preferences are isolated inside Android's private app sandbox.

8. Data Deletion

  • Retention: Settings exist on your phone as long as the app is installed.
  • In-App Reset: You can reset widget settings anytime in the app under Settings → Reset Defaults.
  • Uninstallation: Uninstalling GlanceBar removes all stored preferences from your phone.

9. Children's Privacy

GlanceBar is a general widget tool and does not collect personal data from children under 13 years old.

GlanceBar is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind. RayyLabs is not liable for any damages arising from the use of the application.
