1. Overview & Privacy Guarantee

Texpander (Package: com.ray.shortext) is an offline-first text expansion utility developed by RayyLabs.

Core Guarantee: Texpander runs on your device. We do not log, harvest, sell, or transmit your typed text, keystrokes, clipboard records, or passwords to remote servers. Text expansion is processed locally on your phone.

2. Prominent Accessibility Service API Disclosure

Texpander uses Android's Accessibility Service API (android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE) to detect your abbreviation shortcuts and insert your expanded text snippets into other apps.

How Accessibility Service is used:

  • Trigger Detection: The service observes text input solely to detect when you type your configured shortcut abbreviations (like /addr, .email, or /date).
  • Text Replacement: When a shortcut matches, the service removes the abbreviation characters and inserts your saved snippet.
  • Cursor Positioning: The service calculates cursor position coordinates to display the floating suggestion bubble near your typing field.

Privacy Protections:

  • No Keystroke Logging: Text that does not match a configured shortcut is discarded immediately from memory. Texpander does not record typing history.
  • Passwords Ignored: Password inputs, PIN fields, and secure login screens are strictly ignored.
  • No Background Transmission: No text viewed by the Accessibility Service is ever saved to disk logs or sent over the internet.

3. Data Storage & Privacy

All your snippets, custom templates, variables, and categories are saved locally on your phone in an encrypted Room SQLite database and Jetpack DataStore.

Texpander does not include third-party advertising SDKs or tracking analytics.

4. Android Permissions

  • android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE: Used to detect shortcut triggers and paste expanded text system-wide.
  • android.permission.INTERNET: Used strictly for optional user-requested actions: calling the Gemini AI API for text rewriting, fetching live currency conversion rates, and syncing backups to your Google Drive.
  • android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Shows backup completion notices and quick setting status tiles.
  • android.permission.QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES: Lets you launch specific apps directly from configured shortcut actions.
  • android.permission.READ_CONTACTS & android.permission.CALL_PHONE (Optional): Only requested if you build shortcut actions that search contacts or make phone calls.
  • android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Restores backup scheduling after your device restarts if enabled.

5. Third-Party Integrations & AI

When you use optional online features, Texpander connects to the following services:

  • Google Gemini API: When you trigger an AI prompt (like /ai or /re), only the specific prompt text is sent securely via HTTPS (TLS 1.3) to Google to generate the response. No personal IDs or shortcut databases are attached.

  • Google Drive API: If you turn on cloud backups, Texpander uploads encrypted backups directly to your private AppData folder on your Google Drive. RayyLabs has no access to your Google account or backup files.

7. Security & Encryption

  • App Sandbox: All data is stored in Android's sandboxed local application directory.
  • Encryption in Transit: Connections to Google Gemini and Google Drive enforce HTTPS / TLS 1.3 transport encryption.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Retention: Your snippets and data exist only on your phone (and in your personal Google Drive if backup is enabled) as long as you keep the app.
  • In-App Deletion: You can delete individual shortcuts, clean images, or reset the app database under Settings → Storage → Reset Database.
  • Backup Deletion: You can delete cloud backups directly inside Texpander's Backup screen or via Google Drive.
  • Uninstallation: Uninstalling Texpander removes all local databases and settings from your device.
  • Email Requests: If you emailed us for support and want your correspondence deleted, email support@rayylabs.com.

9. Children's Privacy

Texpander is a general productivity tool and does not collect personal information from children under 13 years old.

10. Terms of Service

Texpander is provided "AS IS", without warranties of any kind. RayyLabs is not liable for damages resulting from the use or inability to use the application.
